Meeting notes:
A.N.I.M.E. Club presents – Anime’ – Hem: The 11th anniversary celebration!
TAKO was the place that hosted today’s 11th anniversary event. Dave, Julia and Brad were all present to help celebrate the day. DVD’s and other SWAG were given away as we all enjoyed great food and great company! Missing but not forgotten were Michael and Dagger Bob. I certainly look forward to another year of existence for A.N.I.M.E. and maybe some better turn out. ^_^
Note for the future: Folks, let’s keep to the topic in which we got together about shall we? I realize there are gamers in this group but if you want to discuss the latest online RPG then please do it outside of the formal meeting. If you want more or better variety of activities send a suggestion to our email address. Note for all other readers: Please submit any URL’s pertaining to your group (anime, Dr. Who, Harry Potter, etc.) to this address so we can add it to our URL list at the end of the newsletter as we like to keep all our friends and associates aware of such wonderful organizations ~ Thanks in advance/Arigato Gozaimasu Until next time anime fandom * bow * Sayonara!

Coming soon online at www.meowaruu.org
The year in review to date ~ I took over, reluctantly, again as president of A.N.I.M.E. Club. No one else could devote time to it or had the desire. I left the planning group for the new Harry Potter Convention because I hate to argue ~ it solves nothing and just seems like an insult and bad communication fest. I started to make plans and devote more time to the club. Got my foot in the door at COSINE and am trying my best to keep in the good books of its presentation/operational running team. I worked at making contacts in the local media to help try and promote the convention and my club for as inexpensively as possible. I have no idea about success or failure with these or any other projects. The web site is still up but not up to date. The trivia contests still go on but seem less than successful and yet very successful at the same time. I only know I did my best and applied all that I knew to making things happen and expand the fan base and membership. It would take too long to list all the successes and failures that occurred this year. There were so many events to keep track of. Peter and Cary both started to come back to the fold, if only on a limited basis. Dave and Julia started to come back to the meetings and help out with both the club and the Harry Potter Online Meet – Up Group. I’ve learned that reinventing myself in the role that I partake in regards to the club and other organizations is as easy or as hard as I would make it. As I wrote earlier, there were many ups and downs, triumphs and disappointments and it would take too long to go over all of them so I’ll just mention the events or actions that caught my eye. COSINE was marvelous. I was disappointed that those who wanted or said they would come, and did not. This is a once a year event that really could use some attention. The excuse that it’s small is really poor considering it would do better and be able to find better places to host the event if more people showed interest. I found the excuse – “ It’s too far away” to be really annoying. Some of you go to Texas for A – Kon and that didn’t become big overnight either – it took time and participation and patience. COSINE is a very good convention for the sci – fi enthusiast. Waiting for something to become interesting instead of contributing to making it so is very bad form indeed. This term’s Christmas party was quite good, not just A.N.I.M.E. Club’s but the Harry Potter one as well. Our big winners for the anime trivia contests were Bob, Dave, Errin (aka DangerMonki) and Little Chris. This is, so it would seem, my final leg of being in America or at least in Colorado. My financial obligations are nearly up and work begins in earnest as far as repairs and fix – ups for my home. The idea of becoming more involved has grown beyond my expectations as much as the lack of it has caught my eye. People I never thought that would do anything became creative and helped out immensely! My hope is that this is not a fluke and that it will continue to grow. I’d love new and more active membership. Anyway, as always – with the good and he proverbial bad – I wouldn’t trade my year for anything. * bow * I would like to thank the following for being part of the few who made my year to date memorable. You are the ones who showed that goals can be accomplished and that there are a few out there who aren’t afraid to speak up and try their best –
Beth – As Organizer for the Denver Dr. Who Meet – Up group you showed yeomen like qualities in organizing and an enthusiasm that I sincerely hope never dies. Nikki Peters – I was saddened by your move to Denver/Littleton. Your presence down here was an inspiration to all. Your love of the subject matter added to a boundless source of energy and a smile to brighten anyone’s day was really something. You made the Harry Potter Meet – Up of the Front Range a fun group and a treat to attend. From what I’ve seen of the posts on the Dr. Who site you seem to have continued in that vein and I don’t doubt that any meeting from here on in will be nothing less than a marvelous event. Peter and Cary – What can I say. The fact that you both made efforts to come in and make the meetings for A.N.I.M.E. Club put you near the top of my anime fan list. Thank you Cary for being kind enough to let me help out at COSINE. Peter, as far as I'm concerned it isn’t an anime club meeting without you. Dave and Julia – You two drove me bonkers at times! However, I would not trade one moment for anything on earth. I may joke about taking the axe to you but to me you are just as much this club as I am. It wouldn’t be a club without you. Julia’s strokes of genius from time to time, with our club and the Potter Group, made helping her and you get a better and more extensive library of anime a joy of a task. Don’t be fooled, I may be a curmudgeon on the outside to you, but you two are both indispensable as friends. Dave, your help with the web site has been most appreciated as well as your wit and wisdom on several subjects. Marie may help keep Nikki’s sanity but you and Julia help me keep grounded no matter what I may rant and rave about. Anyway, thank you both very much for being there this year and helping out as club president the year before. You both make my job easier, even if I don’t always tell you so! There are other people that I could speak of but I think you know who you are – Brad - You really have changed my view of Denver over the years. You and Chris in particular have got my vote for best fan representation as well as being good friends. I just wish I could see more of the both of you and Al and John. ^_^ I am still working towards northern England but at a pace that I find most appealing. I would very much like to leave a good legacy behind for members of my club and the other organizations I have been associated with. You have made my time here in America bearable and even fun – That would be all of you I am referring to! I may rant and rave and seem like a barmy old codger from time to time. However, I don’t forget the people I call friends nor do I take them for granted ( even if it sounds like it). I really do hope that I can do at least one kind act for all of you before I retire to my home in England.
On a slightly different front yet again shows like Mushi – Shi got quite a few good reviews for it’s original sci- fi approach. Well, okay, it was not quite that original but it was a new take on an old story. The cookie cutter plot devices in some shows along with characters also seemed to grab the public eye so to speak. Note to the viewing public: If you want better stories and more in depth plot you have to participate in the process. When a company asks your opinion on past, present and future titles – you are deciding whether or not to break the cycle of complacency or keep it going. This is the reason behind the screenings. Live input beats the Dickens out of online previewing because you can discuss more in depth with real people your ideas, impressions and other concepts that can be translated into reviews. The companies take these and see the direction they need to go to so they can improve what should be improved. They can also either keep or change licensing for various subject matter. FUNimation has gone out of their way to make it fun and give some freebies away to the viewing public. They have also gone with a wider range for various ages so adults can find something for themselves too, I mean the older fans out there. So let’s make some progress, give the companies some feed back so fandom can truly keep going!
Peace Out 0-0~
Editors notes:
My views and such may seem redundant and almost nerve racking. I seem to repeat myself quite a bit. However, if I thought for a moment that the sentiments were sinking in I would only mention my feelings on such matters once. It’s heart breaking to think that the majority of fans have become as dependent on the internet for all of their information as well as shut themselves away from the rest of the world. There is no one source for information. Period. Fans were meant to get together in a friendly atmosphere and share their experiences and views and knowledge of the subject they have become enamored with. Fandom is not a clique! I can never emphasize that enough. Also, if we expect better programming and movies and other media we need to use our voices and help shape the course of companies who license anime from Japan. Otherwise we have no one but ourselves to blame for the lack of quality stories and artwork that stole our attention from mainstream television. When will local fandom learn that silence equals complacency? No one can read minds – I won’t stop mentioning that till the message gets through and is comprehended by all. You really have to say what you mean and mean what you say. Waiting for something new to happen and hoping that your favourite anime production houses will get the idea is folly. It will never happen. Why does anyone think that the major companies have put together cookie cutter factories together strictly for the American market? Until you show that you care and have the patience to spell your ideas and desires out nothing will ever happen to change the current course of anime as it is today. Fandom will die and it will be the fault of the fans for lack of action. This doesn’t just apply to anime fans – it applies to all kinds of fans. If you want good stories, movies or any other media then you are going to have say something. Everything I’ve ever mentioned comes back to the individual. Your choices are what define you – not your accolades or material possessions or your abilities. It’s meaningless to have good ideas, feelings or observations if you can’t communicate them clearly.
That’s my two pence worth and I'm sticking to it!
