This is an advanced notice about the up and coming events of A.N.I.M.E..
I am sending this out, plus an invite to the festivities, to my friends from the Denver and CoSp Harry Potter Meet - Up groups as well as our associates and friends from Denver Anime Meet - Up - All of whom this last year wouldn't nearly have been as spectacular as well as fun!

The time has come at last for a new president for A.N.I.M.E. Club as Dave will apparently be stepping down from office.

Depending on how things go we will be working on a Christmas Party and hopefully some really wonderful presents - for those who want to participate. On this festive occasion we will be attending to Christmas, Winter Solstice (early but no choice) and Winter break.
For those who can attend we can either do one of the following -
1) Have a potluck at a home of one of our members
2) Go to one of the above restaurants listed for November and have a party there
3) Something else
I invite all to come regardless of whether or not you are the type who does celebrate Christmas or just wants to get together for a really good time with friends. This will not just be an anime dinner but a fun social occasion to hang out and talk and meet others from the group. Please consider attending as this will be the 1st or 2nd weekend of the month. Also please pass this along to others not listed in the email that I would normally send to - Sunny, Kai, Dave (not Kai's Dave), Al and some of the Harry Potter group as well from Denver (anybody but Jeff Scott from anime meet - up obviously). There is also a tentative plan in the works for the Harry Potter meet - Up groups of Colorado for that time of year as well so please fell free to join in on the discussions and lets have a great December to Remember!!!!

We will do our best to have children’s programming but please remember none of the Club staff is responsible for what others bring. The content is the sole responsibility of the bringers. Also we are not a baby-sitting outfit! Anyone visiting should not just dump their kids (small children) with us ~ PLEASE!
At the beginning of the meeting, and at the lunch break I, your club librarian, will be available for q&a along with one of our intrepid club officers. If a dinner is scheduled for after the meeting ~ that will be the next best time for questions.

Harry Potter Meet Up groups # 20 and #208
Group #20 & Group #208: Now collectively known as ~ Harry Potter for the Front Range (Colorado) On the 23rd of September plans were embarked upon to start the first Harry Potter Convention at Mile High! On hand were McGonagall’s Cat, Sheila, yours truly, Nikki, Dave and Julia.
Also we started to fix the date and place for our Christmas/Winter Break/Solstice party for both Denver and Colorado Springs.
Much was said and we are now putting our heads together to finalize a budget for such an undertaking as a convention. Costs will determine what fees we shall charge and where we shall hold said convention.

Avistrum at Mile Con, review by Sheila S
Just back from Avistrum and have to say it was very clever. The cast for the staff was fantastic, and most of the student staff was pretty good though some were a bit aloof. They wove the plot into the classes very well, so that pieces of other classes popped up in other places. They did an excellent job of getting the students involved in figuring out the key thing that would defeat the dark witch.
Ages varied from about sevenish to 40+ish. Most of the older people were escorting children, but there seemed to be a pretty good-sized contingent of teens and twenty-somethings.
The classes were interesting and mostly understandable to the variety of ages present. I was very impressed by that... and of course we got to defeat a dark witch, which always rounds off a weekend well.
Students could participate pretty much as little or as much as they wanted. My favorite example being one very uninterested and patient parent escorting one very active youngster, who was often seen consulting the teachers for tips after class and made a point of checking in with me occasionally to compare notes. He very earnestly came to warn me before Arithmancy (which he'd had the previous day) that I should get help if I needed it, because it was the hardest of all of the classes, so I returned the favor by warning him there would be a pop quiz in Charms class.
One thing to know is that sorting is clearly random for the sake of making the numbers in each house even, except that guardians are always sorted with their children. It took the entire weekend for me to feel comfortable with all of the people in my house. We had very, very little in common, but by the closing ceremony everyone had done at least one thing that was impressive and we actually banded together to stick up for one of our housemates in a dispute with another student. At that point, we all just looked at each other in amazement... we'd actually put out a group effort. There really is something to the "your house is your family" thing.
Anyway, I'm very exhausted, but had a good time, learned a few things and met some interesting people.

“ So this is class?”
Jennifer Hokimoto waited for her mother outside of her office as principle of Hirimoshi High School. Her mom was lecturing, yet again, young Raven Arigoshi - Meowaruu for setting off the sprinklers in P.E. class. Jennifer knew Raven from their pre-school days at Minimoto Junior Academy. She was a quiet girl along with her twin sister Ayka until they started hanging out with a couple of underclassmen. It was third grade and Jen remembered it like it was yesterday…
Young Kimiko Kuul and her cousin Sye Kumichi were just getting through bragging about their older siblings who were going to another school across town when Jen noticed Raven and Ayka listening in on them. Well, after introductions and much scheming, a week later all four were in the principle’s office for scaring a young boy by dressing up like Shinobi and attacking him for throwing a spit ball at Ayka.
Ever since the foursome along with the twins brother Kyoto had been getting up to some pretty interesting adventures. Only Jen had the god sense to say no to their schemes as her mom had radar for senses it seems and her getting away with anything would be highly unlikely. Today was a really bad day considering that a new student and a new teacher were starting today and all of these shenanigans happened just before 1st period!
It would seem that Raven is in charge of new students as part of the student counsel and that, as usual, she was hardly setting a very good example.
She knew that the duty would fall on Jen if things went sour and that Jen would probably want something really good for being saddled with a new student, as she was saddled with a lot of responsibility already. Jennifer checked her watch and noted that she really needed to get to first class, it was home economics today, and it was her favorite.
It was also her one chance to talk to Miss Ornillia Khatmus - Moro about her other favorite subject - Shinobi. There was a rumor, as Jennifer knew as she knew all the facts versus myths at High School, about a secret club of ninja that was formed to help guard the school from it’s rivals like the ones at Kinishi High School.
You name the dirty trick to sabotage the competition, their rivals were more than capable of it. It was their job to make sure that they got the other school or better yet stopped the school from doing their nasty business!
However…
Today was a meet and greet and tour & mentor. * SIGH * She really didn’t like doing this kind of thing and her mom was not one to be denied nor ignored, she did after all head the secret ninja group and crossing her at all was just plain stupid.
Jen sees a very cute girl turn the corner and head for her, she seems a little nervous but just as she gets a few steps from the corner there is and explosion from the stare well with lots of black smoke rushing out. Three boys come around all blackened and much disoriented and fall down in a heap. The girl acts startled but some how does not pull it off to well.
She walks up to Jen, “um, I’m suppose to report here for my, um, interdiction. This is the right place isn’t it? Oh I’m sorry, I’m Kinnu Motoko.” She timidly holds out her hand.
“Welcome to the Menagerie!”
Before Jen can say anything Miss Khatmus - Moro comes out of her classroom and Miss Hokimoto out of her office. Jen’s mom speaks first. “ What in the name of…Oh! Miss Motoko, I see you’ve met a few of our usual gossip hounds. Yes, I know who you are. You’re parents described you in a phone call this morning…Yes, Miss Khatmus - Moro?” The teacher who is currently healing up the boys and filling out a detention slip looks over her shoulder. “ Not bad! Not bad at all. I would like to caution you Miss Motoko that use of explosives is discouraged as much as possible around here. It makes a terrible mess and the nurse is just sick to death of all the casualties. Besides, you’ll have plenty of time to blow up or burn up the boys during P.E. class. Mr. Meowaruu does appreciate help in keeping the lads in line and, as pretty as you are, you’ll probably be meeting Mr. Marks, Stephen Marks that is, fairly soon so I’d hold up on the major fireworks till then.” She puts her ear at an angle. “ Yup! You’ll be encountering Mr. Marks, our resident pervert, soon enough…” Miss Hokimoto reaches out and grabs Raven Arigoshi - Meowaruu. “ Raven! I'm not done with you yet. You still have to clean up the mess you made prior to P.E. class this morning. Everything is wet and needs drying off and no using magic of any variety!” The girl with the pink and white hair just pouts. “ Aw, C’mon Miss Hokimoto! It wasn’t that bad…I only nailed the guys side and I held off using the hoses!” Miss Hokimoto is non plussed. “ I don’t care! That’s the third time this week and now you’ll get the mop and clean up! Now get to it! I’ve already cleared this with your teachers and you‘ll have an extra paper to write on why you don’t use those kind of tactics in this school, now march.” Raven goes off looking surly and sullen. Jennifer bows to Miss Hokimoto and begins the class tour.
“ Hi! I'm Jennifer Hokimoto and yes, the principle is my mom. The other woman was our home economics teacher Miss Ornillia Khatmus - Moro. Her son goes to Kinishi High School but she’s okay. The girl you saw moping off in the direction of the gymnasium was Raven Arigoshi - Meowaruu. Her mom is a bodyguard for a living and her dad is on the school board. You’ll see her twin in a bit as she’s part of your third period class. Ayka is to Raven as night is to day. C’mon and I’ll show you where the club sign - up area is first. She takes Kinnu to the lobby at the second entrance. Kinnu finds that there are a lot of clubs for pretty much every taste including martial arts and anime. The art teacher Mr. Mo Kuul is the faculty advisor for the anime club. Kinnu recognizes his name from an award winning manga series “ The Mor of he Dark Sword ” and the long running anime series “ Cutie Bunny Ninja and the dragon Fairies ”. Jennifer takes her time and lets Kinnu ask as many questions as she likes while filling out the forms and helps file them, as she is president of the anime club and the martial arts girl’s society.
Kinnu stops, “martial arts girl’s society?” she sign up for both.
She brings her to the language department first, as it’s closest. They run into Mr. Akuma Kumichi the junior headmaster who is talking about one of the junior class with one of the instructors. He waves at Jennifer and introduces himself to Kinnu before going back to his office. All the language rooms, like the computer rooms she’ll se next, have computer stations and the most up to date language equipment (audio visual). The computer rooms are emaculate and the substitute for today, Mr. Ken Sikada, waves at both girls and invites them to look over the newest systems they’ve gotten in. He’s very friendly and helpful. One of the boys in class smiles at Jennifer and she blushes. The name in front of the computer reads “ Mike Deforest - Himoto Folio ” and he’s not exactly ugly by any stretch of the imagination. The boy next to him with the name “ Alan Sikada Meowaruu ” who is another hunk waves at both girls before going back to his programming.
When they get to the lockers section Jen hands Kinnu a helmet. “ I smell trouble on the wind and you’ll need this.” Sure as the world a group of five girls dressed in pink ninja outfits have chased and cornered a young man. “ Okay Stephen, hand over the underwear or we get nasty!” he reluctantly tries to hand the stolen garments to them when he spots Kinnu and does something stupid. Within a flash before he reaches Kinnu or Jen the five have clobbered him with five very large mallets! He collapses with a funny grin on his face and the girls unmask long enough to tie him up and introduce themselves. There’s a girl with pink and white hare introduces herself first. “ Hi! I'm Ayka. I'm very pleased to meet you! Sorry about Stephen. This is the fifth time this week he’s tried for our under garments and well, you see the results. He’s our resident pervert around here and if weren’t for the fact that’s he’s good looking and actually a nice guy when he’s not thinking about girls underwear he’s pretty cool.” The next girl introduces herself. “ Hi there! I'm Kimiko Kuul and this other red head with the black hair strip is my best friend Sye Kumichi, we’re freshman! Hope to see you around” The afore mentioned girl waves and smiles at Kinnu but says nothing as she’s a little out of breath. The next girl, a tall green haired lass walks up and offers her hand. “ Hi! I'm Rachel Sikada and this is my little sister Miranda!” A blondish girl with red and blue stripes in her hair waves nervously and says nothing. She seems even shier than Kinnu. Rachel turns to Kinnu and Jen. “ We’re the designated anti - pervert squad and part of the girls martial arts society and anime club as well! Nice to meet you once again, have a good year and pleas feel free to talk to any of us or ask questions at any time!” She gives a friendly wink as they haul Stephen to the detention rooms.
Kinnu bows to all of them, “hi, I am Kinnu Motoko, and I’m just starting here.” She then leans close to Jen and whispers, “I have a fake pair, if he steals those, five minutes later, Kaboom.”

Jennifer leads Kinnu past the math department and waves at a few more students. She mentions her siblings are off at University and occasionally will drop by to see Mr. Uru Miroto and or his wife Ayka who teaches advanced metaphysics, metal shop and is the other art teacher who specializes in statues and pottery. Miss Miroto often brings kids from the local grammar school and or the pre - school for special classes as the high school has better art supplies. Mr. Miroto sees Jennifer and calls her over to talk about her exceptional work as of late and informs her that she doesn’t have to take the first week’s test thanks to her extra credit work. Miss Miroto comes in covered with clay and paint on her smock and introduces herself to Kinnu. She and her husband hurry off there after to go pick up their children from pre - school and check on their daughter in Junior High School.
Kinnu notices as they make the fourth floor that there are a lot of repairs and burn marks all over the place. Then the two hear an explosion that rocks the building and hear a teacher yell. “ MISS KUMICHI! HOW MANY TIME MUST I REMIND YOU THAT OUR GAS LINES ARE PERFECTLY FINE?” A moment later after the two enter the room to see what the damage is…
They see a short but very pretty girl covered in soot next to the wreckage of a small device, an invention from the looks of it, and several charred students and one very angry and well done teacher. Jennifer leans over and whispers to Kinnu. “ That’s Pei - Pei Kumichi. She fancies herself an inventor but she’s quite a klutz. Just don’t be near her if she has any explosives in her hands! Nothing happens to her but she did take out the science wing one day last semester…C’mon, let’s get to third period before we get conscripted to do clean - up. Miss Elle Sikada Meowaruu is the head nurse here and she’ll have all in hand in no time flat…er, well…” She looks at the devastation once more. “ …Maybe by lunch period. Let’s go.” They make their way to the english wing and Miss Shutoro welcomes them both and has Kinnu introduce herself. A young man in front, a handsome khat boy, gets up and introduces himself and helps Kinnu to her seat. “ Hi! I'm James Meowaruu, class president and honors society. * Bow * Pleased to meet you! Here, allow me to assist you to your seat. I know Jen’s helping and is the official tour guide but if you have any questions or problems, please don’t hesitate to speak up and ask. I hope you have a great year and that you enjoy our school!” He bows to her once again before sitting down and getting back to his work. Several girls shoot covetous looks at Kinnu before getting back to their vocabulary assignment.
Kinnu turns red and trips and James has to catch her, “Oh, um thank you, um, James.” She bows to him and hits her head on the next desk and plops into her seat, “owy.”
After class Jen whistles low before speaking. “ Whoa! James never usually does that. I know he’s a gentleman and all like the rest of his family but wow!” Jen seems genuinely impressed as they walk to the fourth period study hall.
Kinnu surprised and blushes, “whaaatt, he-he normally d-doesn’t d-do that?”
Miss Khatmus - Moro is there for the period and offers library passes to the two girls so they can see the Sye Phoenix Kumichi Wing that got recently opened up. Jen accepts and thanks Miss Khatmus - Moro and takes Kinnu down to the new library renovation. The Library itself is huge (think the size of a very large city public library like in New York).
There are fourteen audio - visual rooms for study on each of the three floors. Everything is computerized and just requires a student i.d. to access the computer rooms and books.
The latest computers from Deforest - Darkholm industries are available to the students along with the latest security from Darkholm - Kuul enterprises.
Kinnu looks like she died and went to heaven.
After fourth period Kinnu is invited to sit with the girls and the guys. All she’s met today.
She almost drops her tray and does drop her silverware, and almost misses her mouth a few times.
Things are going well until a bunch of thugish boys and girls come in and stare daggers at Ayka, Raven, James, Jen and Rachel. One of the bigger boys cracks his knuckles threateningly and leers at both Kinnu and Jen. James looks like he’s going to kill someone but Stephen of all guys puts a hand on his shoulder and whispers to him. “ Rick Ayuka and those nit - wits from Kinishi aren’t worth it. I'm already in detention and our fearless leader doesn’t need to be either…” A girl from the group walks over and sneers before speaking. “Well, well, well. Look what the cat puked up! You won’t look so smug and cute after this afternoon. Or who knows, maybe the guys just might decide not to be nice any more and finally wipe up the floor with your guys!” She laughs evilly and goes back to sit down. Jen leans over. “ That was Shirley Makito. My older sister knows her older sister. Shirley has been like that for ages and her big sister can’t figure out why. Those guys and gals are her little goon squad. She’s had it in for Rachel and me along with the others since we beat their martial arts team last year, or so she says. I think her attitude is from being rejected by James because she was too over the top for him. Kinishi gets to use our computer labs this year while theirs are remodeled. I can’t wait for the little witch to be…” She gets cut off by a flying plate aimed at James. The same thug that was leering at the two of them threw it and is laughing about.
Kinnu calmly gets out a large paper for origami writes a paragraph on it in beautiful calligraphy and folds it into a tortoise. She then sets it down and it walks unnoticed to the other table and under it. There is a huge ‘POOF’ and pink smoke is all over the table and the goons and it smells of week old rotten eggs. Kinnu then does her best to keep a straight face but it is a loosing battle. (It does not wash off either; it has to be removed by a special spell only Kinnu knows or wait 12 hours.)
